Marlborough Road, St Albans
Type of project
The conversation of an old Estate Agents into a 4 bedroom town house, locating in central St Albans. The project included extensive renovations and a creative loft conversion to add extra space to a small pair of rooms.
Overview
This was a very special project in central St Albans. The client: who was also experienced in construction drafting and detailing took on the responsibility for most of the design work for his home project.
When that drive was mixed together with a youthful and open minded main contractor, the results turned out to be innovative and veered away from the norm.
We were eventually brought in to maximise the loft space and fit in 2 bedrooms at the very top of their newly converted home. We carefully designed low profile steel sections with rebated steel connections everywhere. Finally, once we had checked many portions of the existing timber structure for the brand new loads… it all finally come together.
It was a pleasure working on such a bespoke property with a young and motivated crew.
Services included
Structural Engineering, steelwork calculations, steel plate detailing, loft conversion.
Special considerations
This project consisted of many hidden steel connections and beam elements designed to maximise on the available space and provide clean lines for a chilled living space. Installing the structure in a piece meal fashion provided quite the challenge for the main contractor.
